You know you are in Kodiak when....

  • When traffic reports are replaced by the FISHING REPORTS
  • The water on the floor mat in your car is frozen
  • You automatically remove your boots when entering someone's home
  • You use flat-rate priority mail boxes more than envelopes
  • In Winter, you know who is taking their Vitamin D and who isn't
  • If you don't already have auto-start on your vehicle, you wish you had it
  • You know what a Coastie is, and it doesn't mean you live near the beach
  • You know what Xtra Tuffs are, and you have some
  • You have to do the Kodiak Stomp before entering a store
  • Just because you have a ticket to fly, doesn't mean you will actually leave that day--"weather permitting"
  • It's cheaper to buy DVD's than to have cable TV
  • Store clerks actually wish you a "Merry Christmas"
  • You hear people complain about having to drive "all the way to the other side of town" (10 minutes)
  • Traffic congestion is 3 cars at an intersection
  • Your car doesn't have a chance to warm up before you arrive at work
  • When looking out the window is more reliable than the weather forecast
  • You go to work, church, and shop with the same people
  • Driving a rusty car is "no big deal"

A Decade of Dedicated Service

Matt celebrated 10 years with his company on Monday.

He's seen massive changes over the years. He started out at KHL as a temporary worker to earn some extra money. He was offered a full-time job with charge of a new warehouse. It was a good move, providing stability and health insurance for us. Many co-workers have come and gone, but Matt has persevered.

Congratulations, Babe!

Matt & Randy's Project Bike

Matt & Randy have been searching Craig's list for motorcycles. Matt recently got his motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license. With the weather turning nicer, Matt's got the bike bug.

It's a 1983 bike that needs a little work, but they both are confident they will have it road-worthy. Officially, the bike is Matt's, and they are looking out for a bike for Randy.

Lori's not to happy about the "little butt seat", she would rather have a "big butt seat" before considering getting on the thing.

Tennessee

We flew to Nashville, TN to attend the national student nurses' conference. A small group from Lori's nursing school traveled together. There was time for sightseeing. Nashville is known as "Music City", Memphis is known for the Blues. Here are some pictures of the highlights:

One of Lori's classmates was celebrating her birthday the first day of the trip. We started celebrating in the airport
Though Matt had a window seat, this was the main view from 30 thousand feet--no movies.

The Gaylord Opryland Hotel was where we stayed, many indoor gardens and water features.
Some rooms faced the atriums, some faced the outside of the hotel

Water features were plentiful in our hotel
Lori had her picture taken with Admiral Carol Romano, the Chief Nurse Officer of the United States
Our first night in Nashville, located the Hardrock Cafe, and walked along Broadway
Matt spent free time traveling south of Nashville, towards Georgia. While in Lynchburg, he took a tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery

The safe that killed Jack Daniels, and no, it didn't drop on him.

This is Coyote Ugly Bar, Matt took the picture--he's such a guy. Those are bras hanging over the bar. We apparently were there too early (thank goodness) and the place was calm.
