Hike on Near Island with Suzi and Dot
Lori and Suzi took a hike on Near Island today. This view is from Near Island looking across towards town.

11 Eagles in this picture, taken from the deck of the house I'm staying in. There are 10 on the roof top, and one on the top of the crane. There is a common black bird on the far right of the roof. Today is a mixture of weather. Drizzly rain, sleet, sun breaks, wind gusts, calm winds...never boring. The bald eagles get their white feathered heads after they are a year old.Snow on Pillar Mountain
Lori and her friend Kathrynn drove part way up Pillar Mountain. The town of Kodiak is located at the base of Pillar Mountain. The three windmills are also located there. Too muchsnow further up the road prevented them from reaching the top that day.

This is the Community Baptist Church, attended on Sunday with Kathrynn and Mike. Met some new people, Ted & Kathy, Jennifer.
Hard to see, but I believe there are 20+ Bald eagles soaring in the sky above.
This Kodiak bear is at Mack's Sporting goods store. They really have everything needed for outdoors activities up here, gear, clothes, boots, shoes, etc. etc. There are other sporting goods places in town, too.
XtraTufs are rubber boots that most everyone up here owns/wears. Most popularly worn by fisherman, but not limited too. They are an island fashion statement.

This is the bay where I watched a pod of Orcas. My camera phone was too slow to capture them when they surfaced. Plus it was raining, and I couldn't hold my phone in the air long. You can see a sea lion in the fore-ground

Yep, it's an island. Every Wednesday at 2pm is the testing of the sirens. If we hear them at any other time, we must move to higher ground--at least to the high school on the hill. You can but I'm climbing Pillar--which is the snow-covered and has 3 windmills

This bridge goes over to Near Island. The building in this picture is a restaurant that is open during the summer. They serve fresh fish. The fisherman clean the fish outside, and cook inside.
