You know you are in Kodiak when....

  • When traffic reports are replaced by the FISHING REPORTS
  • The water on the floor mat in your car is frozen
  • You automatically remove your boots when entering someone's home
  • You use flat-rate priority mail boxes more than envelopes
  • In Winter, you know who is taking their Vitamin D and who isn't
  • If you don't already have auto-start on your vehicle, you wish you had it
  • You know what a Coastie is, and it doesn't mean you live near the beach
  • You know what Xtra Tuffs are, and you have some
  • You have to do the Kodiak Stomp before entering a store
  • Just because you have a ticket to fly, doesn't mean you will actually leave that day--"weather permitting"
  • It's cheaper to buy DVD's than to have cable TV
  • Store clerks actually wish you a "Merry Christmas"
  • You hear people complain about having to drive "all the way to the other side of town" (10 minutes)
  • Traffic congestion is 3 cars at an intersection
  • Your car doesn't have a chance to warm up before you arrive at work
  • When looking out the window is more reliable than the weather forecast
  • You go to work, church, and shop with the same people
  • Driving a rusty car is "no big deal"

American Legion here on Kodiak Island serving up some bbq hamburgers and hotdogs to the public.

These two flags are hand-painted. Free-flowing on an American Truck..FORD.

God Bless our men and women that have served, are serving, and will serve our Great Country, One Nation Under God. We are so proud of our youngest daughter, Abigail Marie, for choosing to fight for freedom. As you may know, she inlisted in the US Navy, and is currently in basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. We have no contact with her while in basic, I hope she gets to see fireworks for the 4th.

One of our miracle patients, and patriot....Bob

Suzi and her dad, Wes, had a gathering at their home to watch the fireworks. Suzi prepared homemade lemonade, guacamole, and salsa. I brought along red/white/blue jello parfaits. Good conversation and an excellent view.

Emerald Isle: Kodiak

Pictures taken this evening, about 7:30pm

July 3 "Flower-works"

The Fourth of July fireworks display is held at Midnight on July 3rd, here in Kodiak...pending clear skies.

It has been questionable if they would be held as scheduled. My friend, Kathrynn, was unable to fly off island on Friday afternoon due to weather and visability. She did make it off island this morning, though we have had rainy weather.

As the afternoon hours have approached, the clouds got a bit more scattered and sunshine was able to reach the earth. This was a perfect opportunity to go check out the flowers on Spruce Cape, just minutes away from our rental house.

Here are a few pictures, a more complete album can be found on our facebook link:

Margaret Lake Hike

Margaret Lake, aka Boy Scout Lake

Salmon Berry bloom

Teeny tiny mushroom

That is all moss, like a thick 1970's shag rug!

See the pieces of sea glass?
I was walking along shore line, the wave jumped into my boots! Trying to dry 'em out.

Lilly Lake

Lilly Lake is located in town. It is surrounded by housing and businesses, yet it maintains a quiet, peacefulness about it.

Upper Right side of pic, you can see the end/beginning of the municipal runway. Lilly Lake is home to some seaplanes, both private and commercial.

Snow-capped Pillar Mountain is in the background
