Don't you just love those unplanned trips? We were trying to help our daughter with ideas for something fun to do while her boyfriend was in town for the day. Matt liked the idea of Multnomah Falls up the Columbia Gorge, I suggested something further south of us, Silver Creek Falls. And...so we went...
The weather was pleasant overall, partly sunny with some occasional thunder clouds. We opted for the 5 mile hike option and we were able to see 8 falls during our hike, though there are other trails and more falls. We were well into our hike when the lightening and thunder started. Matt was the official counter, and he determined the closest lightening was about 11 miles away (1 second for each mile, start counting at the flash and continue until you hear it).
